Their story
Ananya and Kabir came to us fourteen months before their wedding with one request: their London cousins and their Delhi grandparents should both feel completely at home. Everything we designed grew from that.
Welcome to the city of lakes
Guests landed to a hospitality desk at the airport, a welcome hamper with a hand-drawn map of the old city, and rooms where their outfits had already been steamed and hung. The opening night was a rooftop dinner with Manganiyar musicians and the City Palace lit up across the water.
Haldi, mehendi and a sangeet worth rehearsing for
The haldi spilled across a marigold courtyard in the morning. By evening the same lawn had become the mehendi, with low seating, chaat counters and eleven mehendi artists working in shifts so no one waited. The sangeet had seventeen family performances, each with its own rehearsal slot, music cue and lighting plan.
The pheras
The baraat arrived by boat. The pheras began at the muhurat of 5:42 pm on a mandap built over the water and dressed in rajnigandha and marigold, just as the sky over the lake turned pink.
We were told to expect chaos. Instead we had the calmest, happiest week of our lives, and our naani still talks about the boat.
