Their story
Tara's family is from Ahmedabad and Nikhil's from Pune, so the weekend had to make room for garba and for a proper Maharashtrian haldi without ever feeling like two separate weddings.
One weekend, two traditions
Friday opened with a poolside welcome lunch and a garba night on the beach, with hanging lanterns marking the dance floor and a live dhol and shehnai trio. On Saturday morning the haldi followed Maharashtrian custom, with both mothers leading the rituals together.
A mandap that faced the sea
The wedding took place at sunset under a mandap of driftwood, white orchids and marigold, angled so that all 180 guests could see the water. A complete wet-weather plan in the resort ballroom stayed ready right up to the morning of the wedding.
We wanted it to feel like a holiday with our favourite people, and it did. We did not take a single vendor call all weekend.
